  • Campus Social Justice Groups Organization Guide by the Center for Campus Organizing – Seven-page article on starting up and maintaining an activism group; includes resources on students’ rights, publicity and event organizing
  • Little Black Books by Young People For – Features colorful, step-by-step guides for different aspects of campus activism, including coalition building, event planning, and harnessing the media.
  • Media Empowerment: A Guide to Understanding and Organizing Media Power and for Media Justice in your Community by the Texas Media Empowerment Project – In-depth guide to understanding and manipulating the media, with particular focus on minority issues.
  • Storming the Tower by the UT Student Liberation Front – A (self-dubbed) “Guide for Student Radicals” at University of Texas, this site details the nitty-gritty of student activism: formatting press releases, preparing corporate research, and even proposing budgets for on-campus events. Although some of the information is UT-specific, there are several generic resources that can be a starting point for any campus group.

  • Choice USA – Runs the Pro-Choice Organizing Academy, which aims to develop emerging pro-choice leaders.
  • The Midwest Academy – Trains leaders of progressive organizations and coalitions to mobilize citizens to participate in democracy
  • The Ruckus Society – Offers training programs for entire communities/organizations
  • Student Empowerment Training Project – Holds trainings, workshops and conferences aimed to cultivate and unite student leaders, especially those involved in student government.
