This weekend, thousands gathered in more than 300 cities nationwide to protest the passage of Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in California.

On Saturday, Nov. 15, people across the country protested the passage of Proposition 8 in California, a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage after it had been legal since May. In Portland, OR, hundreds gathered near the Portland State University campus to show their support for marriage equality and voice their concerns about how support for the proposition was funded. Protesters were also paid a surprise visit by Mayor-elect Sam Adams. The mayor-elect, who will be the first openly-gay mayor in Portland’s history, rallied the crowd and led a chant of “Yes we can!”

Thanks so much for sharing this news. Too Shy to Stop photographer Shaun Bell took a bunch of photos at the Prop 8 protest in DC. You can view the photo essay here.
I find it very hypocritical that a large swath of the last couple of generations wanted nothing to do with “traditional” societal institutions – and are now miffed that their neighbors (who could care less what they in their private lives) don’t agree with their attempt to redefine the term “marriage”.
I was at the DC Prop 8 Protest. As a member of the community, I was discouraged by the fragmented crowd, different sets of megaphones and messages of anger. Check out my write-up here. erica
