Video: Women Leaders in New Media Share Experiences on Bias, Role in Journalism

Women, Action, and the Media partnered with Campus Progress last week to put on a "WAM! It Yourself" event on women in new media. The panel addressed concerns about women's representation—from the need to negotiate for better freelance pay to reasons women are promoted less often than their male peers.

As Amy Austin, publisher of the Washington City Paper noted, there's new research to show that the actual roles of women in news media haven't changed very much in the last few decades. The event offered sound and concrete advice on how to counteract all kinds of bias, including gender, race, geographic location, and sexual orientation or gender identity.
