Anderson Auditorium, Scripps Hall
Ohio University
The E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and Campus Progress are hosting the second annual media reform conference at Ohio University. The goal of the conference is to address issues within the mainstream media, focusing on media coverage (or lack thereof) of various issues and to also highlight careers in progressive journalism. The conference will kick off Friday night with a new documentary, A Soldier’s Peace, produced by Ohio University graduate student and Iraq War Veteran Marshall Thompson, who will take questions after the film. On Saturday, there will be panels and breakout sessions featuring Ohio University professors, media professionals and students, addressing issues ranging from the negative effects of mainstream media on Muslim youth in India, to the availability of media jobs in the non-profit sector in Appalachia. The keynote address will be given by Terry Anderson, former AP journalist held hostage in Beirut, Lebanon for six years.
This conference is free and open to the public.
Refreshments will be served on Saturday.
Sponsored by Campus Progress and the E.W Scripps School of Journalism.
