Matt Ortega
Matt Ortega currently serves in the Internet Department for the Democratic National Committee in Washington, D.C. The San Francisco Bay Area-native graduated from the University of Arizona in 2006 with focuses in Political Science and History. A political blogger since college, Matt authored a weekly series on private contractors in Iraq for Firedoglake, co-founded the blog The Right’s Field that followed the 2008 Republican presidential candidates, and has written for the Huffington Post.
In 2006, he served on staff with the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund in California’s 11th Congressional District, successfully defeating seven-term Republican incumbent and then-House Resources Committee chair, Richard Pombo. The following year, he was an online organizer for It’s OUR Healthcare, a statewide healthcare coalition comprising of over 100 organizations, including SEIU, Consumer’s Union, Health Access California and the California Labor Federation.
