Pete Woiwode
Pete Woiwode graduated from the University of Michigan in 2005. In his time on campus, he was involved in fights to preserve affirmative action, end the iraq war, fight for student representation in university funding decisions, improve workers rights on campus and in the larger community, and bring progressive values and a commitment to diversity to student government. Pete led Voice Your Vote in 2004 in what became the largest student led voter registration drive in the country.
After graduating, Pete worked to defeat a deceptive anti-affirmative action proposal in Michigan, developed and ran a statewide field campaign to increase turnout of progressive voters for progressive candidates, and organized the first ever Michigan Policy Summit, a convening of environment, labor, choice, civil rights, health care, and LGBT advocates to develop a progressive agenda for the state. Pete recently moved to California and now serves as the Field Director for Oakland Rising, a collaborative of progressive groups working for long term social change in the city of Oakland.
