Erica Williams
Erica Williams is a native Washingtonian and a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park with a B.A. in African American Studies and Public Policy. She currently serves as Issues Campaign Manager at Campus Progress. Prior to that, she served as a field associate for the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights (LCCR), the nation’s oldest, largest and most diverse civil and human rights coalition, and the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund (LCCREF), the education and research arm of the Leadership Conference. Here, Erica has worked with some of Washington’s most powerful players in progressive politics, implementing and coordinating strategies to galvanize grassroots support & activity in over 45 states for effective civil and human rights legislation at the federal level. Having helped to coordinate grassroots campaigns around judicial nominations, affirmative action, and the successful reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act, her work currently focuses on the LCCREF Media & Telecommunications Project which seeks to help the national civil rights community play a central role in the policy debates shaping the nation’s media and communications landscape. Her work is also divided amongst various other projects including the campaign to secure voting representation for the District of Columbia and pursuing effective federal hate crimes legislation.
As a writer, musician, public speaker and citizen journalist, Erica thrives on telling the stories of women of color and has used her understanding of public policy, grassroots organizing and the arts to better amplify those voices. A lover of the English language, Erica is also the founder of ProWords Consulting, LLC, a full service communications consulting firm that caters to the individual and small business. In her spare time she enjoys singing, reading, cooking and exploring every nook and cranny of her beloved city, Washington D.C.
