Campus Progress Announces 2006 National Student Conference

Senator Barack Obama to Give Keynote Address

Senator Barack Obama will be the keynote speaker at the Center for American Progress’s second annual Campus Progress National Student Conference. The event will be held on July 12, 2006, at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC.

The one-day program, free to all 700 student attendees, will feature remarks by leading elected officials, activists, journalists, artists, and policy experts; issue discussions; training sessions on policy, communications, media, and other skills; and networking opportunities for students.

Campus Progress, a project of the Center for American Progress, works to strengthen progressive voices on college and university campuses nationwide and empower new generations of progressive leaders.

In its first year, Campus Progress has held more than 100 campus speaking events; funded and supported student newspapers on 35 campuses; published hundreds of articles and multimedia pieces by students, journalists, officeholders, activists, and artists on the CampusProgress.org website and blog; and promoted and funded student advocacy on issues from student financial aid to the Darfur genocide, global warming to academic freedom. Last year’s conference keynote speaker was President Bill Clinton.

College and university students can learn more and apply to attend the July 12 conference by visiting http://www.CampusProgress.org/dcconference.
