National Day to Make College Affordable

Just a few months ago, young voters came out in force and helped elect a new Congress. Now, we deserve the attention of this new Congress on one of the biggest issues we face: the rising cost of higher education.

Although college costs are spiking every year, the last Congress pushed through massive cuts in student aid.

We’re lobbying now to call on the new Congress to make good on its promise to help students and young people. Nancy Pelosi is organizing an agenda for the first one hundred hours of new Congressional leadership. Legislation to make college more affordable should be included in that agenda. We helped to put these new lawmakers in office, and it's time for them to promote opportunity for us all by making college more affordable!

On January 11th, 2007, our national coalition will hold a press event and lobby Congress at the Capitol in DC, while people across the country call on their representatives to make college affordable now.

Join us by telling your representative to cut the interest rates on student loans in half now as a first step towards making college affordable.

There are three ways to take part:

1. Virtually: Send the letter, tell your friends, and join our facebook group.

2. Where you’re at: set up phone banks, write letters, invite your friends to join our campaign. Just send a message to organize@campusprogress.org to show your support and we'll tell you how.

3. Come to DC: join us on Capitol Hill for a press event and lobby day for college affordability on January 11th.
