Rape is still a widespread issue on college campuses. Some estimates show that as many as 1 in 4 college-aged women are raped.
In fact, in 2011 there were 3,396 forcible sexual offenses reported on college campuses across the country, according to the most recent information available from the U.S. Department of Education. Additionally, a report by the National Institute of Justice on rape and sexual violence on campus made the point that many students never report incidents of rape or sexual violence.
This report also noted that, "several studies indicate that a substantial proportion of female students—between 18 and 20 percent—will experience rape or some other form of sexual assault during their college years."
