  • Want to Get Paid to Write for Campus Progress? Yeah You Do.

Lately you've been enjoying the fantastic work of our current staff writers, but we're looking to beef up with even more writers to supplement the work of our already awesome and dynamic staff.

We’re looking for writers and reporters who...

  • are smart, witty, and unpredictable.
  • care and are knowledgeable about issues and progressive politics.
  • can devote time to writing two blog posts a week and one reported feature a month.
  • want to develop a beat, sources, and become a strong voice in the blogosphere.
  • want to find stories young people care about that aren’t reported anywhere else.

We are particularly looking for writers to cover pop culture, higher education, LGBT, race/social justice, and politics.

If you think you fit the bill, here’s what we need:

  • A cover letter that introduces yourself, highlights your skills, and informs us of the beat you’d like to pursue as a writer with us.
  • A resume or one-page summary of who you are and what you’ve done.
  • Three pitches for reported stories you’d like to write for CampusProgress.org covering topics of your choice. (Need help? Check out this page!)

If you’re new or new-ish to writing and reporting, don’t fret: simply check out come of the great reporting on The Nation, Colorlines, The American Prospect, or Campus Progress to get an idea of the kinds of stories we might be interested in.

Applications are due Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010. More application information can be found here. Send your application to editor@americanprogress.org with the words "Staff Writer" in the subject line.

Kay Steiger is the editor of CampusProgress.org.
