Let’s Hope Palin’s ‘Mama Grizzlies’ Video Isn’t a Glimpse Into the Future

Sarah Palin is once again fueling speculation she will make a run for the White House in 2012. The latest bid to gain the nation’s spotlight comes from her official Facebook page, where she has posted a YouTube video comparing herself and other women to “mama grizzlies.”
The nearly two-minute video, paid for by Palin’s political action committee, says current policies coming out of Washington, D.C., concern many women. This year will be “remembered as the year commonsense conservative women get things done for our country," she says in the video.
The slick video includes clips of Palin, wearing her trademark glasses, giving speeches and meeting constituents, her distinctive drawl extolling the values of women and their concern for the future in the video’s voiceover.
“These policies coming out of D.C. right now, this fundamental transformation of America — well, a lot of women who are very concerned about their kids' futures are saying, we don't like this fundamental transformation, and we're going to do something about it," she says.
Many media outlets have pounced on the video, with many comparing the video to a campaign ad. Time Magazine says it has all the hallmarks of someone running for office: "Here is the slow-motion montage set to a soaring score; shots of the candidate pumping hands and hugging fans; a flick at the race's November finish line."
I tend to agree. The video looks very similar to the ones that flood our television screens before every election. But I sincerely hope I am wrong. Aside from politics, I have one major issue with Palin running for president in 2012: She's a quitter. It's been almost a year since she announced she was stepping down and would not complete her term as governor of Alaska. One of the first things we’re taught as children is to follow through with your commitments. Palin didn’t do that. Her run for president might give young people across the country the impression that you can quit something but get a promotion later on. For today’s kids, I hope we're wrong about Palin’s intent in making the “Mama Grizzlies” video.
