CPAC 2012 turned out to be a pretty fruitful event for us at Campus Progress. Not only did we get an exclusive video of Andrew Breitbart exploding at Occupy protestors and a special performance by a conservative rapper, we talked with several young attendees at the annual gathering of conservatives about their views on issues.

We were genuinely curious about why they were there. What issues were they passionate about? Some of the answers we heard were surprisingly progressive.

Or perhaps not so surprising, considering many young people (who made up roughly 60 percent of CPAC attendees) are breaking away from traditional conservatism when it comes to social issues like homosexuality and gay marriage. For instance, Forbes’ Stephen Richer found that about 80 percent of the young people he spoke to thought CPAC organizers were wrong to exclude GOProud from this year’s conference.
