The Alliance for Climate Protection launched the Repower America
campaign to galvanize the American public around a bold new clean
energy plan and a revitalized national energy infrastructure that will
jumpstart our economy and create millions of jobs; help end our
dependence on foreign oil; and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The Alliance for Climate Protection is seeking an experienced
Communications Director for its Repower America campaign in
Washington, D.C. The Communications Director is responsible for
developing and implementing a communications strategy to spearhead the
communications activities of Repower, with a focus on (1) educating
the public about the causes of and solutions to the climate crisis;
and (2) promoting the passage of federal climate protection
legislation during the current Congress. The Communications Director
would also maintain and further develop Repower America’s
relationships with national reporters, increase placement in national,
local and non-traditional media, and work with Repower America
strategy and campaign staff to forward communications objectives
related to the campaign.
Reports to: Repower America Campaign Manager
Supervision
Press Secretary, Deputy Press Desks, Writer/Editor, Director of
Research, state-level Communications Directors
Job Description
§ Designs and manages national and local strategic communications and
message plan for Repower America campaign (earned and paid media).
§ Develops and markets messages for Repower America’s public
education and legislative efforts.
§ Serves as an on the record spokesperson and media resource for
Repower America’s pertinent national and political media outlets.
§ Oversees quality control and message discipline in Repower America
materials (press releases, letters to the editor, op-eds, new media,
media material, phone solicitations, etc.).
§ Collaborates with New Media Director on new media tools for message
delivery.
§ Helps identify appropriate Repower America spokespersons in
response to media requests, as needed.
§ Positions Repower America's brand politically and within the
climate and environmental community.
§ Manages Repower America communications activities including staff,
press, and consultants.
§ Ensures that media is monitored to keep Repower staff informed and
directs response operation.
§ Prepares regular reports on Repower news coverage and other metrics
of communications work, assists with board reports and materials and
works with development on any related communications efforts.
§ Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
§ Goal-driven and results-oriented individual with a strong
commitment to climate, environmental and/or public
interest.
§ 3-8 years of relevant professional campaign or journalism
experience, post-college, including (but not limited to) work in
political, policy, legal, journalistic, or government settings.
§ Well-organized, a self-starter, flexible, creative, able to work
under pressure, and be able to work quickly and cooperatively on
several efforts at one time.
§ Excellent writing and verbal skills essential.
